What’s going on in here?
Welcome back to Leave Me Alone! I’m in Here!
Everything remains terrible. ICE is a terrorist organization that is younger than Eyes Wide Shut, and they just keep killing people. Call your reps, help where you can, fuck this administration and fuck ICE. I hope while you’re here in my room, you can take a breath and think about the silly stuff for a minute.
What am I watching?
Not as many movies as I’d like lately! Or at least, not as many new movies. I’m also skipping virtual Sundance for the first time since it’s been available, and I’m feeling a little bummed out about it. Time will tell if I grab a last minute ticket for something.
Here’s what I’m into right now:
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. I went to see this with a friend last week and we had so much fun. Nia DaCosta did an excellent job jumping into this world. Ralph Fiennes is as great as he always is, but Chi Lewis-Parry stole the show as Samson. Well, along with Jack O’Connell, who is having a great couple of years playing fantastic villains.
Minx. I watched the first season of this show when it aired on HBO Max (I think just Max at the time?) and really enjoyed it. Then it got cancelled, and picked up by Starz, and then cancelled again after a second season. Now both seasons have landed on Netflix and I can finally finish my journey with the team at Bottom Dollar Productions. This show is fun, sexy, and smart, and it deserved more time to find its audience.
That Thing You Do! I rewatched this recently so I could host a MovieJawn Film Club discussion, and realized quickly that I could pretty much recite the whole movie. I love it so much, it makes me so happy, and this is not a controversial opinion, but Liv Tyler is so beautiful it makes me sick.
I watch a movie every day, and this year I’m really hoping to see more international films, more classic films, and more queer films. Follow me on Letterboxd to see what I’m logging every day!
What am I listening to?
I didn’t drive much this week, and I do all my best listening when I’m toodling around town. Still, here’s what I’ve had on repeat this week:
The Baton by Katie Gavin. I’ve been enjoying her entire 2024 album What a Relief, but this song makes me burst into tears pretty much every time I hear it.
For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti by Sufjan Stevens
Building a Mystery by Sarah MacLachlan
California by Chappell Roan
What am I thinking about?
This week, other things I feel like talking about include:
The uneasy truce between Chutney and Edie.
My house guest, Chutney. My parents are out of town, and I’m taking care of their cat. She is a mature lady with one eye who prefers not to travel. The five minute drive from their house to mine was…tense. But she’s settled in and is being carefully monitored by my dog, Little Edie.
The snow! I have been really stressed out about it but I’m trying to relax. It’s really intense and dangerous, and Edie doesn’t like her boots, and I’m worried about my friends who have lost power and are stuck. I guess it looks nice from inside, and it’s been nice to see sledding videos.
What am I working on?

Tomorrow night! My MovieJawn colleague Genevieve Radosti and I will be on Instagram Live for another episode of VideoJawn. Join us on MovieJawn’s Instagram channel at 8pm EST on Tuesday, January 27 to hear us yap about the joys of physical media. This month’s theme? Movies about journalism, in celebration of our winter print issue!
The Winter 2025 print issue of MovieJawn is still available. Click here to get your copy!
This week’s list theme is, what else, snow! Check out my list Snowed In, and let me know if you watch any of my recommendations!
Now get out of my room!
That’s it for this edition of Leave Me Alone! I’m in Here!
If you’ve read any part of this, I am so grateful! I hope to see you back here again soon.
