What’s going on in here?
Welcome back to Leave Me Alone! I’m in Here!
Every other week, I invite you into my room, where I’m watching, reading, listening, and dreaming. The door only stays open for a little while, so get comfy while you can…
What am I watching?

It’s almost the Oscars! I need to see a few more Best Picture nominees, but I plan on knocking them out this week. I had hoped to catch the shorts at a theater, but the timing didn’t work out this year. In the meantime, I’ve been watching a lot of other stuff!
Here’s what I’m into right now:
Mildred Pierce. I love Joan Crawford. She’s long been one of my favorite actors, and my first piece in print for MovieJawn was about Joan. And yet, until very recently, I’d never seen one of her most famous roles. I finally watched Mildred Pierce this weekend and I loved it. It’s gorgeous, Joan is amazing, and half the time I was yelling at the screen like I was watching a football game.
Sliding Doors. I went on a bit of a Gwyneth kick recently, with this and A Perfect Murder. This was…okay! I love John Hannah, so it was fun to see him. The real reason I watched? There’s an episode of Frasier based on this movie called “Sliding Frasiers.” I’ve seen it countless times and I was tired of not having the full context.
Pillion. Last weekend I took myself down to Old City to have a little day. I had lunch at the Khyber, I shopped at South Street Art Mart and Philly AIDS Thrift and Anastacia’s, and I saw Pillion. Every year, usually around this time, I see a movie that makes me go straight to Letterboxd to start my “best of the year” list. Last year it was Sinners. This year, it’s Pillion. I loved this sweet, funny, heartbreaking, horny movie.
DTF St. Louis. Only one episode in so far, but I’m interested!
I watch a movie every day, and this year I’m really hoping to see more international films, more classic films, and more queer films. Follow me on Letterboxd to see what I’m logging every day!
What am I listening to?

I have a job that involves a lot of tasks that I get to sit and do by myself mostly without interruption. Currently, these songs are on repeat while I do my little tasks:
Sorry, Sorry by Rooney (brought to you by learning that Jesse the nurse on The Pitt is played by Ned Brower, real life RN and former drummer of Rooney. I love it when people pivot!)
Tiny Spark by Brendan Benson
1st Things 1st by Phantom Planet
Drawn to the Blood by Sufjan Stevens (there is almost always a Sufjan song on the list.)
The Last Goodbye by the Kills (thank you, Industry season 3 finale.)
What am I crying about?

My late thirties have become a time to cry, and I’m embracing it. Here’s what’s getting me this week:
The world in general and its many Situations.
Different dog on Instagram than last time, but still a dog on Instagram.
Death.
Pillion.
What am I thinking about?

This week, other things I feel like talking about include:
We have officially Sprung Forward, and I am relieved. I am historically a winter person, but even I have my limits. Congratulations to all my SAD friends, the light has returned.
Back to Booths Corner! In addition to delicacies like sourdough everything bagels, honey roasted cashews, and apple cobbler, I picked up enough DVDs that I didn’t have to buy a stuffed animal to hit the credit card minimum (I felt guilty about not bringing home a new friend, though, so I can’t really win.) This haul cost $10 total.
What am I working on?

The spring issue of MovieJawn is now available for pre-order! I’m excited for every issue of MovieJawn, but this one might be my favorite so far. I contributed a piece about the 1966 movie The Singing Nun and Jeanne Deckers, the real life nun whose story (and ear worm pop hit Dominique) inspired the film. This is going to be a fabulous issue.
I’ve got a review of Tow, starring Best Actress nominee Rose Byrne and The Holdovers breakout (and Ocean City, New Jersey’s own) Dominic Sessa, running on MovieJawn soon. Later this month, Viewers Like Us will run on TVJawn. Stay tuned!
VideoJawn goes live on March 24! Join me and my MJ colleague, Genevieve Radosti, for our monthly Instagram Live show where we celebrate all things physical media. We’ll be live on MovieJawn’s Instagram at 8pm EST.
This week’s list theme is films about celebrity. Pursuing it, losing it, being driven mad by it. Check out my list, and let me know if you watch any of my recommendations!
Now get out of my room!
That’s it for this edition of Leave Me Alone! I’m in Here!
If you’ve read any part of this, I am so grateful! I hope to see you back here again soon.
